Four fire crews have been called to a flat fire at Vimto Gardens in Salford.
Smoke can be seen rising from the first floor of the newly-built apartment block on Chapel Street.
One local resident who lives at the nearby Canon Hussey Court said: “I was looking out of my window at around 4.30pm when white smoke started pouring out of what looks like one of the apartments.”
The bedroom of the first floor flat is understood to be ablaze.
Fire crews are using a water hose to dampen down the fire.
The occupant of the flat was inside at the time, but managed to escape and call the emergency services.
They did not require hospital treatment and are not thought to be seriously injured.
Around 25 firefighters are at the scene.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire confirmed: “We were called at 4.30pm to a fire in the first-floor bedroom of an apartment.”
The incident is ongoing.
