Eccles pub raises £1k for cancer charity with close shaves

Kind hearted regulars from the Dog and Partridge pub on Church Street, Eccles held a sponsored ‘Brave the Shave’ head and chest wax in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and managed to raise a hair – raising £1,000!

The event took place last Bank Holiday Sunday in a packed pub with customers all eager to do their bit.

SalfordOnline.com spoke to regular Bob Nelson who organised the event.

“Each year the pub holds a fundraising event for cancer charities, last year we raised £1,000 for the Anthony Nolan charity.

“This year we decided to raise money for The MacMillan Charity because almost everbody I know has lost a member of their family or a good friend through this terrible illness.

“Six of the lads took part, most had their heads shaved, others who how shall we say, were more follically challenged than others, had their chest and back waxed, which looked quite painful.

“A big thank you goes to barmaid Michelle who kindly did the waxing and shaving”

Extra funds were raised by a charity raffle which included signed Salford Red Devils shirts, signed Wayne Rooney photographs and vouchers for a local beauty salon.

As Bob so succinctly put it, “We are a small pub, with a big heart”.
