Police probe report of men approaching 9-year-old girl in Salford

Police are investigating after two suspicious men approached a young girl in the street in Winton, Salford.

The nine-year-old was walking near her home along May Street, off Westwood Crescent, at around 6.30pm last night, Tuesday 8 September.

Two males walked up to her and started asking her a series of questions, like ‘What’s your name?’ and ‘Where do you live?’

This made the girl understandably very nervous and uncomfortable as it was two strange men talking to her that she didn’t know.

One man was described as being white, with red hair, while the other is described as being of mixed race.

Both are thought to be in their late teens or early twenties.

After asking the girl questions, one of the men leaned in towards her, and she ran off down the street in the opposite direction, police said.

When the girl looked back at the men she thought one had his arm out as if to grab her.

She was left unharmed but very shaken.

Greater Manchester Police said the incident was being investigated as suspicious circumstances.

The incident has also been logged forcewide so local officers can be aware of it.

A spokesperson for the force added that no attempt to abduct the girl had been made.

Anyone with any information should call local officers on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
