Salford soap star supports college radio campaign


Former SalfordOnline reporter and now Marketing Officer at Bury College, Victoria Howell has sent in the following story about Bury College making airwaves as they launch an exciting radio campaign with the help of BBC and Channel 4 talent, Salford resident Nico Mirallegro.

24 year old Nico is championing the college after applying to study Drama, Media Studies, Economics and Business Studies in 2007, before the performing arts enthusiast was given the opportunity to chase his ultimate career goal and attend an open audition at hit teenage soap Hollyoaks.

The former Siddal Moor pupil, who lived in Heywood, jumped at the opportunity to be the voice of the campaign, an advert that will be broadcasted on Capital FM.

Nico, who’s acting CV boasts an impressive list of shows including BBC dramas Upstairs, Downstairs and The Village, BBC film Common and E4 hit series Mad Fat Diary, believes that Bury College is a place that drives individual’s careers.

Nico, whose sister attended Bury College said, “I feel really honoured and privileged to be a part of this exciting radio campaign. I think it’s really important to progress onto further education and college is a great platform to help you reach your full potential.”

Nico is well-known for his part in Hollyoaks where he played the role of Barry ‘Newt’ Newton from 2007 to June 2010 and tackled a range of teenage issues. The Performing Arts enthusiast, who now lives in Salford added, “I started acting lessons at the Manchester School of Acting and took the opportunity to attend the Hollyoaks open audition for 15-18 year olds. It was a really fast turn around and absolutely mind blowing! My character faced many issues and I had to do a lot of research in order to fully portray my character.”
