Little Hulton brave monsoon to beat Bolton

Little Hulton were desperate for a win as Bolton Mets visited in this latest league match, with the Reds stuck on zero points so far this season.

The game started with the Reds on top with their first set ending just 15 yards from the Bolton line.

Lee Foster put a delicate chip over the advancing defence, the Bolton fullback was unable to collect while under pressure from Reds wing Lee Parsons, who toe poked the ball through and collected the other side to race over the line for the first points on board.

Kyle McDonough put over the conversion.

Between their ill-discipline, poor handling and the powerful Bolton pack Bolton were coming back into the game and was no surprise when they opened their account with an unconverted score.

Little Hulton hung in with showing great heart as the weather got worse, as the half was drawing to an end the Reds finally got near the Bolton line earning a scrum 10 yards out.

A cute pass gave Kyle McDonogh chance to break the visitors’ defensive line and just made the try line, he added the conversion to put Little Hulton back into a lead of 12-10 which they held till half time.

The second half started in near-monsoon conditions with the rain lashing down, and charging down the hill, the Reds finally got into gear.

Mike Vinton was on hand to take the final pass of many to score wide out, but McDonough was unable to convert into the strong wind and rain.

This was the start of the Reds’ purple patch with big Mike Bolton breaking the Bolton line twice to score and McDonough converting both.

To their credit Bolton showed a never-say-die attitude and attacked with vigour only for the Reds defence to stand firm.

Bolton finally got their deserve consolation but scored too late have a chance of a share of the spoils, ending with a final score of Little Hulton Reds 28 Bolton Mets 14

Little Hulton’s man of the match was Mike Bolton.
