Changes to HMRC’s free filing software for Corporation Tax returns
Companies House and HMRC are developing a new, improved company tax return and company accounts filing service called Company Accounts and Tax online (CATO). This will make it quicker and easier for small companies to file their annual accounts to Companies House and company returns to HMRC – at the same time or separately. The current free filing software will be available until 31 December 2016 for accounting periods ending on or before 31 December 2015.

Government grants to upgrade business broadband
Over 40,000 small businesses in 50 cities and surrounding areas are already benefitting from the Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme. Find out if your business is eligible for up to £3,000 to cover the installation costs of upgrading to a faster and more reliable connection. Most businesses will pay nothing other than VAT and the standard monthly charges.

Payrolling Benefits in Kind – Register now
HMRC has introduced a new service where you can register to ‘payroll’ most Benefits in Kind (BiKs). You can register immediately (but no later than 5 April 2016) to stop reporting BiKs on a P11D from 2016/17. Businesses can refer to the guidance to see which BiKs can be payrolled.

Self Employed National Insurance and Self Assessment
Since 6 April 2015 Class 2 NICs has become collectable through Self Assessment for most self-employed people. Payment for 2015/16 will be due no later than 31 January 2017. A small number of customers will not be required to complete an SA return and HMRC will be sending these customers a bill by October 2016 to enable them to continue to paying their contributions.
