Pictures: Man spotted casually walking a pet tortoise on Salford precinct

It’s one of the weirdest things you’re likely to see this year.

A 1-metre long pet tortoise called ‘Buzz’ being taken for walkies on sunny Salford precinct.

Pictures of the slow-moving shelled reptile were snapped by Chelsea Fisher, SalfordOnline.com’s volunteer social media manager.

Chelsea, who is celebrating her 40th birthday today (happy birthday Chelsea), spotted the unusual animal and owner making their way through the Fitzwarren Street car park while on her lunch break today.

“I was a bit shocked when I spotted the two of them outside Tesco,” she said.

“I’ve never seen a tortoise that big before.

“He was just strolling along without a care in the world.”

Other shoppers have come forward with pictures of the scaly celebrity.

Sarah Louise Dargan posted in SalfordOnline.com’s Facebook group: “The guy was so nice and he said he was just letting him stretch his legs in the sun shine 😀😀😀😀”

The charming creature is not shy either.

He’ll walk up and peer through the sliding doors into Salford Shopping City.

Even the slowest customers need not worry though, this tortoise won’t be snapping at your heels, as it lives off a diet of fruits and leafy green vegetables.

Walking alongside the four-year-old, 20kg beast is the owner – who must have the patience of a saint.

The owner’s sister in law posted: “This is my brother-in-law with Buzz.

“When he first got him he was smaller than the palm of your hand.

“He has all the appropriate paper work and Buzz is so well looked after, better than most of us!”

Chelsea added: “It was quite sweet actually, the guy kept picking him up to put him on the grass and he kept waddling over to the footpaths instead.”

Luckily in this urban environment there’s no predators to worry about – the only thing Buzz could face is overzealous parking wardens trying to give him a ticket.

“It looked like he was being well cared-for, he had food and water with him.

“He moved surprisingly fast, considering.”
