Watch: Former Australian flanker Phil Waugh gives post-match thoughts on Australia’s defeat of England

Phil Waugh gives his post-match thoughts after Australia defeated England to put the hosts out of the tournament

Waugh commented: “It was a very polished performance across the park set up by the forwards, with the dominance in the scrum. The kudos has to go to the forwards who set the platform for this victory. England were not allowed to play because of the performance by the Wallabies today.”

Waugh praised the Wallaby scrum coach Argentinian Mario Ledesma, “He has done a fantastic job, our scrum is now a weapon of ours. It set the mentality for the team and that has a big psychological impact on the game.”

Looking ahead to Wales v Australia, Waugh commented, “No team has won the World Cup having lost a game during the pool stages, on the back of that performance the guys can be very confident. It will be a war of attrition against Wales, and I am looking forward to the battle of the back rows.”
