Major delays after serious three-car smash near Trinity Way

A serious crash at the junction of Trinity Way and Cheetham Hill Road is causing severe delays for drivers into this evening’s rush hour.

The A665 Cheetham Hill Road has been closed in both directions between the A6042 Trinity Way and the A6042 Miller Street as police carry out urgent accident investigation work.

The smash happened at around 3.20pm on Wednesday 4 November between an Audi A5, BMW Z4 Ford Focus.

Two people were reported trapped in one of the cars.

The driver of the Audi, who is thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was rushed by ambulance to Salford Royal hospital with serious injuries.

Greater Manchester Police described his injuries as ‘major trauma’.

Diversions are in operation: traffic heading inbound to Manchester is being diverted onto New Bridge Street while traffic travelling eastbound on Trinity Way is being sent outbound on Cheetham Hill Road away from the collision.

Knock-on delays are starting to build up on the A6 Chapel Street, the A57 Regent Road heading towards the M602 roundabout and drivers are being warned to try and find alternative routes where possible.
