Pictures: Police shut Broughton Road as fire crews stop former Hollies pub blaze


Police closed a main road in Salford tonight while fire crews managed to stop a former pub from going up in smoke.

Three fire crews from Salford, Broughton and Agecroft were called to Agnew’s Place, off Broughton Road in Pendleton at around 8.15pm tonight.

Police closed the precinct roundabout near St Thomas’ Church while fire crews assessed the extent of the blaze.

The fire, in the first floor room of the building, was quickly extinguished.

The building is adjacent to the former Unicorn pub – which was turned into Misteria agents earlier this year.

The road has since re-opened and no-one was reported injured.

Greater Manchester Fire, who are live-tweeting Bonfire Night, report they’ve taken over 200 calls across Greater Manchester since 2.30pm today.
