Barbara Keeley MP urges action to tackle traffic misery

Barbara Keeley MP is calling on Salford and Greater Manchester transport bosses to take urgent action to address widespread traffic congestion across Worsley and Eccles South.

In recent weeks Barbara has received a large number of complaints from constituents about increasing traffic congestion in Boothstown, Ellenbrook, Walkden, Worsley, Barton and Winton.

Barbara recently met representatives from Salford Council to raise these concerns.

Barbara said:

“I am receiving daily complaints from constituents who tell me congestion across the area is becoming intolerable. Many are finding their journeys are taking five or six times longer than normal. People tell me they fear losing their jobs due to the severe delays.

“Congestion across the area is causing absolute misery. That is why I have called on Salford Council to hold an urgent summit with Transport for Greater Manchester, Highways England, Urban Vision and Salford Council officers. I hope that we can look at the issues and see if any action can be taken to relieve the pressure over coming weeks.

“There are no easy solutions but I believe we have to try to do whatever we can to help improve the lives of local people stuck in this awful situation.”
