Traffic in Walkden is attempting to negotiate a busy junction at rush hour without the help of traffic lights, which have broken for the third time inside two weeks.
The signals are not working at the A580 East Lancs Road at the junction with the A575 Walkden Road.
There’s congestion back the junction with Brierley Road.
Drivers are slowing on the approach which is causing tailbacks along the busy route.
Councillor Iain Lindley, who represents Walkden, tweeted this picture of cars trying to get through the busy junction in peak morning traffic.
At around 6.30am this morning, Tuesday 13 September, Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted that the traffic lights were out.

@OfficialTfGM @SalfordOnline is there any underlying fault? Three times in a week. Big risk of massive accident.

Transport for Greater Manchester has now explained on Twitter that the fault – which has repeated three times inside two weeks – is caused by ‘slugs getting into the machinery’.
@cllrilindley @SalfordOnline Hi Councillor Lindley, this is caused by slugs getting inside and causing damage. Sorry for any inconvenience
