Man fighting for life after brutal street assault in Swinton


A 28-year-old man from Salford suffered a bleed on the brain after being attacked in the street in Swinton.

The man was walking with his brother back from the Weaver’s Arms pub on Swinton Hall Road at around 10.45pm on Saturday night when he got into an argument with a second man.

The offender threw some kind of unidentified liquid in the younger man’s face, burning his eyes, and then punched the 28-year-old.

He hit the pavement, suffering a fractured skull and a broken cheekbone.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Salford Royal hospital with a bleed on the brain.

Doctors were forced to operate immediately to remove a blood clot.

He remains in hospital for recovery.

Police closed off part of Swinton Hall Road for over two hours while they investigated the assault.

No one has yet been arrested.

Police are now understood to be studying CCTV to identify the offender.

Detectives are calling on anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch with police.

More detail on the investigation is expected from Greater Manchester Police later today.
