[liveblog] Salford Red Devils face a big challenge when they face Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium.
The crunch Super League tie will see Salford bring former Wigan trio Scott Taylor, Harrison Hansen and on-loan Logan Tomkins back to their former home.
Wigan boss Shaun Wane said ahead of the match: “Salford will be hurting because with the quality of personnel there, they would have wanted to have won more games.
“They will come to the DW confident after beating Wakefield last week and with some familiar players, a main one being Logan (Tomkins) who I rate very highly. They will want to put a show on so we need to make sure we defend better and are physical, technically very good and don’t give penalties away.”
Wane said he never considered asking Tompkins not to play in tonight’s match up.
“I want to do the right thing by Logan as he’s my main concern. It wouldn’t have been fair to start pulling him out of certain games, that’s not my style. I want Salford to have players fit and their best team out, likewise for us to make it a good game.”
The Warriors have picked up four points from a possible six after games against their top-four Super League rivals.
And confidence is high with good home form at the DW.
For Salford, Darrell Griffin is set to make his 300th Super League career appearance at Wigan.
Lama Tasi returns to the squad after missing the last four game, while Michael Dobson is named following weeks on the sidelines due to an injury he picked up in the Challenge Cup defeat to Leigh Centurions back in April.
Weller Hauraki and Liam Hood also return after missing last week’s game against Wakefield Wildcats.
Iestyn Harris’ 19 man squad: Rangi Chase, Mason Caton-Brown, Michael Dobson, Niall Evalds, Theo Fages, Darrell Griffin, George Griffin, Josh Griffin, Harrison Hansen, Weller Hauraki, Liam Hood, Greg Johnson, Adrian Morley, Cory Paterson, Junior Sau, Lama Tasi, Scott Taylor, Logan Tomkins, Jordan Walne
