How to: Changes to SalfordOnline.com from Monday 25 July

SalfordOnline.com is undergoing some extra-special site maintenance and changes over the next week, and readers may notice some differences on the site.

Most of the work we’re tinkering with is on the back end.

It’s relatively dry stuff, consolidating databases, working on our archive site, and installing all manner of technical wizardry and upgrades.

But this will make the site work even faster, serve more people on more devices and allow for crucial expansion as our daily readership continues to increase above 25,000 page views A DAY.

Monday 25 July to Friday 5 August – Send news to news@salford-online.com

Most people won’t notice any changes, but there is one important one.

For up to seven days from Monday 25 July 2016, the domain name of the website will switch over from SalfordOnline.com to Salford-Online.com.

After that, it’ll switch back again to SalfordOnline.com.

Note the extra little dash in the middle.

There’s nothing there yet, but from Friday evening onwards, Salford-Online.com will leap into action.

This little seven-day switcheroo will allow us to continue with our ideas for future expansion to continue making SalfordOnline.com the biggest and best-loved news website in Salford.

After next Friday, you can keep using salford-online.com in future if you want, too.

Over the weekend, there may be a couple of bugs popping up on the site here and there.

As normal you can report any site errors (or volunteer your time to help fix them) to news@salford-online.com.

All the links back to news stories that you see on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc will remain the same, so there’s no change there.

Thanks for reading SalfordOnline.com, (and from Friday night, Salford-Online.com) and keep watching the skies…
