Police probe suspected arson at Winton nursery


Police are investigating at the scene of a suspected arson in Winton, Salford.

Fire crews called police to the Westwood Smarties Children’s Centre on Grasmere Crescent at 6.30am on Monday 27 April.

The fire at the one-storey building has caused a small amount of smoke damage, and no injuries have been reported.

The nursery will remain closed throughout Monday 27 April.

The blaze is believed to have been started overnight.

Three fire crews from Salford and Eccles were called to the Winton estate in the early hours of this morning.

Management at the nursery have sent staff home today while police investigate the scene.

The nursery declined to comment on the record while a police investigation was underway.
