Top 5 things to do in Salford this weekend


Those long summer holidays are stretching out ahead of us, so here’s five family-friendly things to do in Salford this weekend.

CBBC Summer Sportarama – Saturday 22 August – Sunday 23 August – 10am – 5pm

The CBBC Summer Sportarama takes place on the opening weekend of the IAAF World Athletics Championships from Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 August on the Piazza at MediaCityUK.

Test your athletic prowess with Blue Peter, compete in the Shaun the Sheep ‘Championsheep’s, get crafty with Art Ninja, while Kickabout+ gives aspiring TV stars the chance to have a go themselves.

There’s also story time and crafts with CBeebies, and you can even meet some of your favourite CBBC presenters!

Free entry, no tickets required. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times

Charity Boxing Match – Saturday 22 August – 7.30pm – Late

It’s seconds out for a white collar charity boxing match at the Higher Irlam Social Club, Cutnook Lane, Irlam.

There will be eight bouts lasting three x 2 minutes with all boxers trained at Irlam ABA club.

All the money raised will be donated to Liverpool’s Walton Centre, a lifesaving specialist neurology hospital.

Admission is £20, with bar and food available.

Lookout – Salford Quays – Saturday 22 August – 11am – 12.30pm

Head down to the Lowry Theatre on Salford Quays for a free morning’s entertainment with the children.

Trained instructors will teach your children how to make crafty things like animal sculptures out of scrunched paper and tape ideal for young artists and families.

Salford Remembers Gallipoli- Sunday 23 August – St Clements Church, Ordsall – service starts at 10am

Call into St Clements Church in Ordsall, Salford and pay your respects to the brave men of Salford who fell at Gallipoli in August 1915.

After the service you are all invited to the Pendleton Royal British Legion, Langworthy Road, Salford,

Free entertainment and buffet.

Go Victorian at Lark Hill Place – Sunday 23 August – 10am – 4pm

Take the children to Salford’s very own Victorian Street where they can dress up in period clothing and learn about the good old days at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, The Crescent, Salford.

It’s one of those Salford attractions that you’ve probably heard of, but never tried – it’s definitely worth it.

Look into shop windows from the past, play with period toys and try out sweets from 100 years ago!

After that take your little ones to the main gallery to see the magnificent exhibition about children in Salford during the First World War.
