A lorry driver has become stuck under a low railway bridge in Walkden.

At around 1pm today, Wednesday 7 October, SalfordOnline.com readers sent in pictures of the large Rockwool truck wedged under the 14ft 6in bridge on Walkden Road, opposite Walkden railway station.

Drivers are negotiating their way around the accident site and traffic delays are expected.

Walkden Road has not been closed.

It’s the second time today a lorry has hit a low railway bridge in Salford.

At around 9.45am an HGV had its roof ripped off after smashing through the 13ft 6in low railway bridge on Green Lane in Patricroft, Eccles.

The driver escaped injury but the accident caused severe traffic delays as pallets of plastic and debris were scattered across the road.

Drivers get stuck under the Walkden railway bridge with alarming regularity.

This is despite large black and yellow stripe signs indicating the height, and a red warning sign which says quite clearly ‘LOW BRIDGE’.

In May 2015 a 14-tonne truck hit the bridge causing hours of road and rail delays.
