In-form ban threat Rangi Chase up for Player of the Month

He may be facing a long ban that could seriously dent Salford’s drive towards the top eight, but Rangi Chase has been shortlisted for the first in a new format of Super League Player of the Month.

Chase has made the final five of a new format for the March award which will be decided by a fans’ vote – facing off against Leeds’ Paul Aiton, Hull KR’s Albert Kelly, Matty Russell of the Warrington Wolves and Giants half-back Danny Brough.Rangi’s Grade E ‘dangerous throw’ against Brett Ferres in the 15th minute against the Giants on Good Friday could land him with a maximum eight-match ban – and he’ll appear before an independent RFL tribunal on Wednesday night – but it shouldn’t stop the influential Kiwi from gaining the plaudits for hitting a rich seam of form.

After all, rugby fans are still talking about that sublime round-the-back pass piece of skill which sent through Josh Griffin against Hull FC to kickstart Salford’s season.

All the voting takes place at the First Utility Facebook to whittle down the list to a top two before the final judgement is made by a judging panel from First Utility & League Weekly.

Fans have until 10 April to register their votes.

Ed Kamm, Chief Customer Officer at First Utility, added: “It’s the fans that make the First Utility Super League what it is and we want to tap into their knowledge and passion to choose the outstanding performers each month.

“The blend of expert views and fan opinion will ensure we crown a deserving winner every month, which will be presented by one lucky fan.”
