Monton village will get the Christmas season off to a glowing start on Thursday November 26 by switching on its Christmas lights.
Santa has also put the date in his diary and promised to take time out of his busy schedule to visit the village.
This year he’ll be mingling with the crowds giving out glowsticks to children to help light up the village as the Christmas lights are switched on.
There will be a chance to meet Monton’s Minion and youngsters are being invited to take part in a Find the Penguin competition. Several penguins have hidden themselves in Monton shop windows – and the super sleuths who spot them all will win a small prize from the Art and Craft House or Candy Pops.
Monton village shops will be staying open late to get into the spirit and there will be a tombola with prizes donated by local shops as well as music from Monton Geen primary school singers, Monton Voices choir and Eccles Borough Band.
A traditional barrel organ and one man wandering band Lyrical Lord Leo will be performing and there will be small rides for the children.
There’s free parking in the village car park from 3pm – and plenty of great restaurants and bars to make a night of it after the festivities are over.
The free event, on Monton Road, starts at 4pm and runs until 6.30pm with the lights switch on at 4.45pm.
Lead organiser Pam Pickard of Monton Arts and Crafts House, said: “It’s a fun event for all the family and a great way to start the Christmas countdown.”
The event has been sponsored by Home in Monton estate agents and Monton Village Community Association.
