Five police officers had to be rescued by fire crews at Swinton police station today after getting stuck in a lift.
GMP Salford West cheekily posted on Facebook: “Do you remember the 33 Chilean miners trapped and then rescued in 2010, we currently have 5 officers stuck in a lift at Swinton Police Station #prayforthem”
The post, at 8am today, attracted more than 1,300 likes and has been shared over 250 times.
The bobbies were stuck for 45 minutes before being rescued by the local fire crew who managed to lower them back to the ground floor so they could walk to safety.
Within minutes of the photo going of Facebook the page was inundated with humourous comments.
Ruth Ellison wrote: “They are in my thoughts #prayforthem
Christopher McMurdock said: “It can’t be true, really 5 officers on duty at the same time! No way.”
Cheryl Kershaw posted: “Quick someone play some lift muzic such as “informer” or “I shot the sheriff” or “bad boys” …. And post the YouTube lift dance video….coppers having it large!! X”
Wendy Leach Marshall wrote: “Typical Brits even though there in such grave danger they still smile how brave our heroes #pray for them
GMP Salford West replied: “We currently have a bucket and rope to lower supplies, but being cops a donation from Krispy Kreme is required urgently to help them.”
It’s not the first controversial Facebook post by GMP Salford West this week.
On Thursday local officers posted how a man – later detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act – tried to set a python on them after they attended a concern for welfare call.
