Salford residents aged 65 and over who haven’t yet received their free flu jab are being encouraged to attend one of two special clinics taking place next week and make sure they’re fit to fight the flu this winter.
The clinics are running at Malimson Bourne sheltered housing complex on Monday 14 December between 1pm-5pm and at Critchley House, between 9am and 1pm, on Wednesday 16 December.
Dr Hamish Stedman, Chair of NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Those of us who have never had flu don’t know how lucky we are. Anyone who has had it knows only too well how nasty a bout of the flu can be. For some it can lead to hospital stays and sadly even death amongst those most vulnerable.
“The jab is free to those 65 and over and getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from catching flu. I would urge everyone who is offered the vaccine free on the NHS to get vaccinated. I hate needles and I have it – it doesn’t hurt and cannot give you flu.”
Malimson Bourne sheltered housing is situated on Hilton Street North, Higher Broughton, whilst Critchley House can be found at 75 Chorley Road, Swinton.
Over 40,000 people in Salford have had their flu jabs this year but it’s not too late to have a vaccination.
People who are eligible for an NHS flu vaccination, but are unable attend to the special clinics, can still get a flu jab if they contact their GP practice or some pharmacists.
