GMP hunting man who escaped from police custody

Police are hunting a man who escaped from police custody.

Joseph Mensah, 45, was admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary on Friday 4 December 2015. Whilst under arrest, Mensah jumped out of a window and escaped on Sunday 6 December 2015.

It is believed he caught the number 50 bus on Upper Brook Street.

Mensah is described as being black, of heavy build, 6ft 1in tall, wore a blue/black coat and blue jeans.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mossop said: “While Mensah poses no immediate threat to members of the public, we are keen to find him and would appeal to those who may have seen him to call us.

“We are currently investigating the circumstances that led to Mensah’s escape and are continuing to search for him. I would like to remind those who may be hiding him it is a criminal offence to do so.

“I would also make a direct appeal to Mensah as he was originally admitted to hospital for injuries to his leg and needs treatment.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
