Manchester Airport offers 2,500 new jobs in 2016

Manchester Airport says it will have 2,500 new jobs up for grabs in 2016, with recruitment starting at a jobs fair in January.

A variety of roles will be on offer including security staff, cabin crew, baggage handlers, aircraft dispatchers, drivers, receptionists and check-in desk operators, as well as a range of positions in engineering, retail and hospitality.

It comes after a record 23 million passengers used the airport in 2015.

Manchester Airport has also announced it will spend £1 billion to double its capacity as it seeks to compete with Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The 10-year plan will see Terminal 2 expanded and linked directly to Terminal 3 to allow more long-haul flights.

It will see the number of passengers using the airport rocket to 45 million a year.

Owners Manchester Airports Group are expected to announce a new security hall, increased self-service check-in facilities, additional stands for aircraft and a 50 new shops and restaurants.

Manchester Airport said further growth is predicted with a number of key long-haul routes to be launched over the next eight months.

They include Los Angeles and Boston, with Thomas Cook Airlines, and Beijing, which was announced during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Manchester last month.

That service, with Hainan Airlines, will start in June 2016.

Manchester Airport already employs more than 21,500 people on site, supporting a further 45,000 jobs in the region.

Employers including Jet2Holidays, Menzies Aviation, Costa Coffee, Holiday Inn Express and The Nuance Group will meet the public at a Jobs Fair on Wednesday 13 January from 11am to 7pm at the Runway Visitor Park, Sunbank Lane, Altrincham, WA15 8XQ.

Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, Ken O’Toole, said: “The ongoing successful performance of the airport has resulted in the creation of huge number of new roles across the entire airport, in order to meet the increased number of people and planes using the airport.

“Manchester Airport not only plays a vital role in providing international connectivity for the region, it is also an economic provider and job creator. In the North West alone the airport makes an economic impact of £1.7bn.

“As we grow and increase upon our 23m passengers and 210 destinations, in turn employment and economic value will also continue to grow.”
