Police and fire crews rescue ‘distressed’ man from M602 motorway bridge

Police closed the westbound carriageway of the M602 at Eccles last night after reports that a man was in a distressed state on a motorway bridge.

At around 11.10pm on Sunday 13 December emergency crews were called to the bridge near Gilda Brook roundabout at Junction 2 of the M602.

Fire crews from Salford and Eccles spent around 45 minutes using an aerial platform to reach the man before the police took over.

The man was not reported to be injured in the incident.

He was taken to Salford Royal hospital for further assessment.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at around 11.10pm after getting calls of a man in a distressed state on the bridge.

“We secured the scene and aided in getting him to hospital.”
