Council planners have voted to approve the demolition of warehouses in Eccles for a new four-storey apartment block.
Vacant buildings at Delta Works on Chadwick Road will be knocked down to make way for 11 two and three-bed flats.
The detached two storey office blocks, marketed at £15,000 rent per year, have lain empty for over two years, according to planning documents.
In their place will be built eight two-bed and three three-bed flats.
Because this is listed as a mid-value area, there is no requirement for developers make planning contributions.
Next door to the site is Ringwood Marketing Wholesale Food Distribution, which supplies meat products to the catering industry, and the Little Explorers Day Nursery.
On the opposite side is a former industrial unit which will be the new home for Danceworks Eccles Ballet and Theatre group. Planning permission for the 50-pupil dance school was granted in July 2015.
While the site is small, and constrained by neighbouring buildings, planners agreed that the new build would improve the “derelict, unkempt appearance” of the industrial estate.
The Irlam-based applicant Paul Downing has agreed to build 7 new car parking spaces, bringing the total to 11, along with 11 new cycle spaces.
The agents were Howard and Seddon Partnership Chartered Architects.
