Old Pint Pot gig for St Ann’s Hospice raises £2,700

Radio presenter Simon Williams is top of the charts when it comes to helping out good causes.

A music and poetry night he organised in memory of his friend Steve Linney, from Langworthy raised £2,700 for charity.

The proceeds were split between St Ann’s Hospice where Steve was a patient before he died of cancer some 16 months ago, aged 51, and Shelter for Forces, a support group for ex-servicemen.

Simon, who lives in Eccles and is from the Langworthy area, runs popular online radio station Sounds of Salford and has written four books about northern humour.

Simon said: “The night was an overwhelming success and I’d like to thank everyone for their support for two deserving causes.

“This city is all about caring for needy people and the money raised will help these organisations carry out vital charitable work in Salford.

“The evening was a great tribute to Steve and I’ve got another friend Julie Oakley, from Langworthy, who is a day care patient at St Ann’s.”

Topping the bill at The Old Pint Pot in Salford were local musicians including The Things, Chris Flynn, The Ascension and Benefit State, plus Salford poet Jimmy Twamley.

Fellow presenters Paul Coleman, Ian Cullen and Sharon Louise Manhood helped out on the night while Candy Skull Tattoo Studio, of Swinton, sponsored room hire.
