A huge explosion and fire at the Coronation Street set in Salford has been revealed to be a controlled blaze as part of a storyline.
At around 9.25pm on Tuesday 14 April a passerby to the MediaCityUK soap on Salford Quays heard an explosion and saw a ‘fireball’ and called in Greater Manchester Fire.
The service immediately dispatched three fire engines and a Station Manager to Warren Bruce Road in Trafford Park, but when they arrived at the ITV offices they discovered the burning building was just a part of the show.
It’s not thought GMF were alerted to the planned explosion in advance.
@steryder74 posted the first picture, which was picked up by some media outlets as a breaking fire.

Greater Manchester Fire tweeted: “The Coronation Street set IS NOT on fire!
“People have reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames but it was part of special effects.”
