Police temporarily shut Liverpool Road in Irlam this morning after a teenager was hit by a car.
At around 8.10am on Thursday 14 January there was a collision between a girl, who police said was 19 years old, and a red Vauxhall Insignia.
Schoolchildren on their morning walk to Irlam and Cadishead College witnessed the incident.
The victim was left lying in the middle of the road.
North West Ambulance sent paramedics to the scene at 8.12am.
The girl suffered bleeding and a sore hip but was conscious and breathing.
She was taken by ambulance to Salford Royal hostpital for treatment.
The driver of the Vauxhall stopped at the scene and no arrests were made, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
Officers stopped traffic coming towards the incident, closing the the busy road between Astley Road and Excalibur Way while they dealt with the incident.
The accident caused huge tailbacks along the A57 in both directions, with rush-hour traffic queuing along the Barton stretch towards the M60 Junction 11 roundabout.
The road was re-opened at 9am today, said local traffic police.
