Tonight from 7pm Swinton British Legion plays host to a fantastic flood relief fundraiser for Forever Manchester
It’s just £5 advance/£6 on the door, and all the money raised goes to the Greater Manchester Flood Relief Fund.
Boosted by a £20,000 donation from supermarket giant Morrisons, the fund has hit almost £31,000 so far.
Volunteers have helped put together the show for free, with every act donating their time for nothing.
Swinton DJ Jonathan Buck told SalfordOnline.com: “Simply, it’s going to be a fantastic night of music.”
On the bill tonight are US-born Mississippi Soul Man, Malcolm McBride, three-piece rockers Wolf and the brilliant female vocal duo Le Zar.
“All the money raised will go to helping people rebuild their lives,” said Jonathan.
“I was away in Wales over Christmas but I logged on to Facebook on Boxing Day and saw the devastation.
SalfordOnline’s own flood relief fund is still open with over £2,800 raised from individual donations, as well as the amazing contribution of a charity gig at the Lower Kersal Social Club.
“Hundreds of families have lost everything,” said Jonathan.
When you see first hand what’s happened to parts of Salford with the flooding – it’s a mess. It’s shocking.”
Jonathan put all call out to friends to offer help and within days it had “just snowballed”, he says.
He’s DJing tonight along with pals Keith Leigh and Stuart Linguard.
Swinton British Legion have donated the room free of charge and over 125 tickets have been sold already.
“None of us are getting paid a single penny – all the proceeds go to Forever Manchester for them to distribute to flood-hit areas in Salford and Greater Manchester.”
Join the crowds at Swinton British Legion on Cheetham Road, Swinton.
Doors are at 7pm and the fun goes on until 12.30am.
