Pictures: Fire crews called to Eccles Drill Hall after skip blaze

Three fire engines from Eccles were called to a disused hall being redeveloped for houses after a large fire was found in a skip full of wood.

Concerned residents raised the alarm at 2.30pm today, Wednesday 27 January, amid fears the 19th-century hall had caught ablaze.

Eccles Drill Hall on Cromwell Road is due to be demolished and replaced with two rows of terraced houses.

Green Watch firefighters opened a fire hydrant on Cromwell Road, hosing down the burning skip.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Builders are working on gutting the interior of the hall before it is knocked down to make way for eight houses.
