A man handed himself into police after admitting killing a man in Salford, police have revealed.
At around 1pm on Monday 8 February a 36-year-old man approached a PCSO on patrol in Manchester and said that he had killed a man, and that his body was in a flat on Cannon Street.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
A 30-year-old victim was found with a number of stab wounds in Salford University’s Bramall Court hall of residence, off Silk Street in Salford.
He has not yet been formally identified.
A post-mortem is due to take place later today to establish the exact cause of death.
Specially trained officers are now with the victim’s family.

A University of Salford spokesman said yesterday: “We were informed this evening of the very sad news that a young man has been tragically found dead at halls in Cannon Street.
“This has come as a huge shock to us all and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
“The University is helping Greater Manchester Police with its investigation.”
Crime scene investigators cordoned off part of the first floor of Bramall Court while they conducted their investigation.
Further enquiries are ongoing to establish the detail of what led up to the incident.
No other arrests have been made.
The halls are owned by private firm Campus Living Villages (CLV).
CLV also own John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts in Pendleton, and the £81m ‘Peel Park Quarter’ student block.
