Police cordoned off a large section of a street in the Pendleton area of Salford after paramedics found a man with a serious stab wound.
Officers were called to Broad Street at 5.45pm on Monday 15 February.
Eyewitnesses reported a very heavy police presence which continued into the night, while one spoke of seeing a man on the floor covered in blood.
Reports from the scene suggest the 26-year-old victim was seriously injured with a stab wound to the thigh.
He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, said police.
It is believed the man was stabbed on Upper Gloucester Street a short time before paramedics were called.
Police set up crime scenes with outdoor lighting and were not allowing pedestrians or vehicles to pass through.
A row of shops at the corner of Broad Street and Higham View was taped off including the Slow Boat Chinese chip shop, Paresh’s News and Off Licence and Chillis takeaway.
A section of park to the rear of Eades Street was also been cordoned off with traffic cones while police investigate.
Pictures from the scene show a very heavy police presence, as well as a blood-soaked towel lying on the ground outside the off licence.
The crime scene is right next to the A6 in Salford and so was witnessed by a large number of drivers.
Police spent over two hours conducting door-to-door enquiries but said they had not yet found a motive for the attack.
Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and any witnesses are asked to contact police at Salford CID on 0161 856 5351.
