The current adverse weather continued to force the postponement of the fixtures involving teams within Beechfield United’s Junior Section, but fourteen games were played mostly on artificial pitches.
Having to deal with a poor pitch were Beechfield United Under 11’s Storm (9v9) who were away to Urmston Town Devils. This Development Group Blue contest turned out to be a real thriller with the teams sharing twelve goals. On target for Beechy were Man of the Match Alex Vanden, Damion Broughton, Rome Hodson and Luke Carr.
In action at Salford Sports Village were the Under 11’s Tornadoes (9v9) who arranged a friendly match with Winton Wanderers Orange. Joe Hope and Alan Kay scored the goals for the Tornadoes who chose Will Whipday as their Star Player.
The Under 10’s Storm hit top form in their Development Group Green away game at AFC Monton Dragons. Following a goalless first half the Beechy lads took control and eventually secured a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Josh Everall, Tawonga Chirwa and Oliver Lawton. Man of the Match was Connor Battersby.
A freezing wind blew across the pitch at Ladybridge Lions when Beechy Under 10’s Tornadoes made a great start to their latest Development Group Red fixture.
Keeper Ben Davies was out with an injury so Lewis Wallis deputised and produced a fine display. On a very tight pitch Beechy’s passing was a bit hit and miss but the Tornadoes took the lead through Charlie Mulvenna following a great piece of skill. Defenders Jack Fitton and Harley Kirk foiled numerous Ladybridge attacks while upfront the forward duo of Kayden McClean and Harley Davidson gave the Ladybridge defence a tough time.
Harley Davidson netted three second half goals and Oliver Lomas also impressed with a gutsy display but the Man of the Match award went to Kayden McClean. Thanks to all the parents who braved the arctic conditions to cheer on the team.
Beechy Under 9’s Hurricanes played De La Salle Red at Eccles College and created another stylish display. Include in this Development Group Purple encounter there was a Man of the Match performance from Dominic Roaden who was also listed as one of the goalscorers. Also on target was Josh Clough and the Hurricanes could have scored more goals but they were thwarted by the De La Salle keeper who was outstanding throughout the contest.
Neighbours Moorside Rangers Yellow were the Under 9’s Storm’s opponents for their latest Development Group Purple fixture. Freddie Jackson and Reece James got the goals for the Storm who were able to celebrate a narrow victory. Cole Winstanley received the Man of the Match award.
United’s Under 9’s Typhoon welcomed back goalkeeper Peter Ellis from injury for their away game at Flixton Cougars and was immediately back on top form. Ronan Mullen and Jamie Withington got the goals in an entertaining and closely matched contest. Best Player was Joseph Bottomley.
Matthew Correy was named as the Under 9’s Lightning Man of the Match following the teams Development Group Green away fixture against Winton JFC.
Producing another top-class all-round display at the JJB Soccer Dome were the Under 8’s Hurricanes. Beechy met AFC Monton White and came out on top following this Development Group Yellow game thanks to goals via Man of the Match Jayden Walker, Brett McWilliams and Owen Bolton.
Also at the JJB Soccer Dome the Under 8’s Tornadoes played Deans Sports. Goalscorer for Beechy in this Development Group Red encounter was Joshua Taylor while the Best Player award went to Owen Hogben.
Faced with a 9am kick off were the Under 8’s Storm who travelled to play Ladybridge Pumas. Leading goalscorer Joshua Kilfoyle was on target again and voted Man of the Match was Jack Hanbury.
Sharing eight goals with Winton Spitfires were Beechy Under 7’s Storm. This thrilling mini-soccer match produced some top quality soccer and goals for the Storm came via Man of the Match Henry Jones, Kylan Twigg and Matthew Cox.
In the Development Group Red Division there were hat-tricks for both Man of the Match Lloyd Hiles and Ethan Harris in the Under 7’s Hurricanes home game with AFC Monton Tigers.
On Sunday morning the Under 7’s Tornadoes were involved in a very close game with local rivals Moorside Rangers Green who eventually won the match. George Rowbotham was the Tornadoes Best Player while Fletcher Jackson and Harry Jones scored the goals.
