Ordsall power cut: Engineers need to dig up road to fix

Over 60 residential and business properties in Ordsall are still offline this morning after a power cut.

Power supplies have been off since around 1am on Tuesday morning.

Homes and offices on around 15 streets betweeen the Ramada Hotel Manchester on Ordsall Lane, across to the Manchester Ship Canal, and Ordsall Park to the north have been affected by the power outage.

A spokesperson for Electricity North West (ENW), who manage the electricity supply in Salford, said its engineers had been dispatched to the site at around 7.40am.

Repair workers will need to dig up a section of road on Old Shaw Street, off Goodiers Drive, to get access to the underground equipment and conduct a full review.

A spokesperson for the authority said temporary traffic lights would be put in place while repair works are ongoing.

The power cut is believed to be down to an underground cable fault, although ENW are investigating reports of damage to their equipment.

The power is expected to remain offline into mid-morning until engineers are able to start roadworks to gain access to their equipment.
