A local family has appealed to the public in Salford after a 15-year-old girl was hit by a car which sped off as she lay injured in the road.
Ellie Dean was walking towards the shops on Barton Road in Swinton at around 11am on Monday 15 February.
As she crossed the traffic island on Manchester Road near Temple Drive, the car made a U-turn, hitting the schoolgirl and throwing her to the ground.
Ellie was lucky not to be seriously injured, although she suffered brusies to her hip, neck and wrist as she hit the ground with force.
A Greater Manchester police spokesperson confirmed that a car had failed to stop at the scene of the accident and that an investigation was ongoing.
The car was described as old model in charcoal-grey with a low spoiler on the boot, and the driver a man in his 20s.
Ellie said that the car had a blue oval badge, which she thinks could have been a Ford.
It is thought that the registration included an X and either a letter O or a number 0.
Shortly after the collision a large red car, described as a people carrier pulled up to help.
A man was driving with a woman in the passenger seat.
They asked Ellie if they could take her anywhere, but she turned them down, saying her grandparents only lived 50 yards away.
Ellie’s mother, Wendy Dean, urged the man who helped her daughter to make contact with the police.
Wendy told us: “I was panicking because I wasn’t sure about the extent of the injuries.
“I am grateful for the people who stopped to help and was hoping for them to come forward to thank them and to see if they can remember the car’s registration.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
