Appeal for witnesses after brutal assault in city centre

Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked by a group
of men outside a bar in Manchester city centre.

At around 3.45am on Sunday 14 February 2016, a 24-year-old man was outside
Charlies Bar on Harter Street in the city centre when he was approached by
a group of men who began punching and kicking him in the head and body
until he lost consciousness.

Following the attack the victim was taken to hospital where he was found
to have a small bleed on the brain. He has now been discharged from
hospital to continue his recovery at home.

One of the attackers is described as a mixed race man of stocky build,
approximately 6ft 3in tall, around 24-years-old and wearing a brightly
coloured top.

Detective Constable Kelly-Anne Featherstone of GMP’s Manchester City
Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This was quite a vicious group
assault on a man who had been enjoying a night out with his friends.”

“The city centre bar scene is very busy on a weekend and we believe that
there may have been a number of witnesses who can assist with our
investigation.

If you think you may have seen this incident then please contact police.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 3221 or the
independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
