Armed police arrest four in connection with firearms discharge in Salford

Shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday 17 February 2016, armed officers stopped a vehicle on Bury New Road in Prestwich.

Four people that were inside the vehicle were arrested on a number of offences.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

Two men aged 19 and 22, and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal. They have all been taken into police custody for questioning.

The vehicle was stopped as part of a proactive operation by officers investigating a recent firearm discharge in the Salford area.

It comes after months of violence in and around Salford, with police linking these incidents to gang feuds.

In January police arrested five people in connection with Salford shootings.
