Knife-wielding thief kidnaps worker to hold up Swinton Subway


A man brandishing a large knife at Subway in Swinton grabbed hold of a fleeing shop worker and forced her to open the till at knifepoint.

At around 5.15pm on Wednesday 10 February the man approached two female staff members at the sandwich shop off the A580 East Lancs Road, at the junction with Broadbent Street.

As he threatened them with the knife, both tried to escape, but the offender managed to hold on to one woman, forcing her to open the till.

One of the women was hospitalised with a cut to her leg she suffered while trying to escape.

The offender stole a small amount of cash and fled on a bicycle.

He is described as white, tall, with fair hair and a fair complexion. He was wearing a blue ski jacket with the hood pulled up tightly round his face.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Detective Constable Dave Cupitt said: “The two women were understandably terrified when a man carrying a large knife came into the shop making threats.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and remembers seeing a man matching the description near the shop I would ask that they contact police.”
