Live – Snow hits Salford: Travel news, pictures and weather


Around an inch of snow has fallen this morning in parts of Salford, and heavy flakes coming down now are sticking to the ground.

Eccles is looking prettier than normal but traffic is slow in the usual pinch points, on Liverpool Road at the M60 roundabout, and on Regent Road heading towards Manchester.

No major accidents have been reported this morning.

In more outlying areas some cars are struggling with the icy conditions.

As of 8.14am Salford City Council are reporting no school closures.

Update as of 8.35am no school closures have been reported.

The Met Office have issued a severe weather warning for snow and ice which is in place until 3pm this afternoon.

Brighter spells and wintry showers are predicted to follow later today with a maximum temperature of 6 °C.

Snow is turning to slush in Pendleton and the slowing traffic on Broad Street is causing some delays to morning rush-hour journeys.
