Police closed two lanes of the outbound M602 motorway this afternoon after a two-car crash.
Officers were called to the M602 at Eccles at 3.20pm between Junction 2 for Gilda Brook Road and Junction 1 for the Eccles M60 interchange.
Traffic was queuing to the A57 Regent Road roundabout and all the way back to the A57(M) Mancunian Way.
An Audi and a white Ford Fiesta were involved in the collision.
No serious injuries have been reported.
As of 4.30pm one lane was still closed westbound heading out of Salford, with extensive delays going into rush-hour.
One driver who was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic said: “It was over half an hour between the roundabout at the top of Trafford Road to the hospital exit on the M602.
“The traffic was just gridlocked all the way to Junction one where it splits for traffic going to the Trafford Centre, Irlam and then to Bolton.”
Any drivers on the Manchester side wanting to access Salford Royal hospital are advised to find alternative routes.
