On 3 April, Didsbury-based Contour’s Lindsey Anders, Andrew Brown, Pete Coventry, Andrew Lord and Eddie Vickers will run the Wilmslow Half Marathon in aid of Manchester’s Booth Centre.
The centre offers education, training and advice to help people find new homes, improve their health, skills and confidence, and to resettle in the community.
Then, on 10 April, Contour’s Stacey Smith will complete the Cheshire 10k at Arley Hall, Warrington, while Sam Cooper, Amy Hermiston, Jac Oldham and Sara Mihranian, from Peak Valley Housing Association in Hattersley, will run the Manchester Marathon in relay in aid of the Inspiring Futures scheme to support young carers in Salford.
The mission is in support of the National Housing Federation’s ‘Run For Homes’ campaign, which aims to highlight the difference social landlords make, while raising money for housing, homelessness and other charities.
Meanwhile, throughout March and April, other staff from Symphony will be taking part in the Liverpool Half Marathon and Heptonstall Fell Race in West Yorkshire.
They will also be supporting the Brain Tumour Charity and the Whitechapel Centre, which works with homeless people in Liverpool.
Bronwen Rapley, Chief Executive of Symphony Housing Group, said: “The charities our staff are supporting do an incredible job at helping people to rebuild and improve their lives.
“Housing associations play a big role in that, too, which is why we were so keen to get involved and support the ‘Run for Homes’ campaign.”
Other staff from Symphony and its member housing associations are also organising walks and activities with residents in sheltered housing schemes to support ‘Run for Homes’.
Katie Teasdale, the National Housing Federation’s North West External Affairs Manager, said: “Last year, housing associations from across the land advanced on Westminster to call on politicians of all parties to end the housing crisis within a generation.
“We want to harness the sector’s passion and commitment once more to raise money for local charities, and add further to the role of housing associations as champions of their communities. We’re delighted to have Symphony on-board.”
