Home Bargains to open new 23,000sq ft Eccles store this Saturday

Discount homeware retailer Home Bargains has announced it is to open its huge new store on West One Retail Park this week.

Liverpool-headquartered TJ Morris Ltd, which trades as Home Bargains, said the 23,000sq ft outlet will open to the public on Saturday 19 March from 8.30am.

It represents a £500,000 investment in Salford from the family-owned firm and could eventually provide up to 50 new jobs for the local community.

SalfordOnline.com revealed exclusively back in October how Salford Council was pushing through subtle changes to the retail park set-up to allow big firms to make massive new investments in the once-ailing West One.

Now the tired and derelict shopping centre on the outskirts of Eccles is looking up.

Home Bargains will sit alongside The Range’s flagship 60,000sq ft Greater Manchester store, and the new 14,000sq ft Symth’s Toy Store (also revealed exclusively here on SalfordOnline.com) which is due to open at the end of March.

Salford’s Deputy City Mayor, Councillor David Lancaster said at the time: “Home Bargains were keen to remain in Eccles but have outgrown their town centre store, which is one of the smallest in their portfolio.

“They looked for another town centre site but sadly, nothing was available to suit their needs.

“I’m confident that the precinct will find new tenants to replace Home Bargains in the town centre, given the level of investment going into Eccles at present, with plans for a new hotel, new flats and shops on John William St car park and the support of the town team in encouraging local people to make full use of their local shops and facilities.”

Home Bargains runs 400 stores nationwide but is planning major expansion up to 700 outlets by 2021.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our second store in Eccles and look forward to welcoming both new and existing customers through the doors.”

The opening event on Saturday morning from 8.30am will feature a special appearance from children’s favourite Stuart, from the hit films Minions and Despicable Me.

The outlet will offer Eccles shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Joe added: “West One Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re pleased to be strengthening ties in the local business community.”
