A theatre company is due to take over the historic Royal Oak pub in Eccles for a three-night “immersive experience”.
Not Too Tame, fresh from a sell out run at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival, roll out their show at the pub from 4-7 June.
Cast members will interact with the audience at the Edwardian pub on Barton Lane during the raucous hour-long show, which promises to showcase “all the great qualities of a gig; energetic, unpretentious, electric and served best with a cold drink in hand.”
The plot sees a brother and sister re-opening their much-loved family pub for the first time since their mother’s passing.
Real-life Royal Oak landlord George Forrest, 66, told SalfordOnline.com: “We’re really looking forward to this in what is a definite first for the pub.
“The company approached us with the idea of a site-specific performance and we jumped at the chance.
“As soon as they walked through the doors they said: ‘This will suit us perfectly’.
The pub was built in 1904 on what was then known as Timothy Street, one of the worst slums in Eccles, which was cleared to make way for Barton Lane.

Not Too Tame’s UK Artistic Director, Jimmy Fairhurst, said: “We want to see regular theatre goers laughing shoulder to shoulder with people who may be put off by the traditional, rigid theatre set-up.
“These amazing spaces were built to house and entertain large groups of people and we’re using Early Doors to breathe life and public spirit directly into the heart of these communities.”
