Salford Central and Manchester Victoria closed until 4 April

Manchester Victoria and Salford Central stations will be closed for the next 11 days.

Network Rail ordered the closure, to start after tonight’s final service, to start preparation work for the Ordsall Chord bridge.

From Friday morning, train services will not be running to or from Manchester Victoria or Salford Central.

Metrolink will still be running its trams through Manchester Victoria, however.

Some train services which would normally run to Manchester Victoria will be diverted to Piccadilly, or will be replaced.

Passengers are urged to check with train operators before setting off.

The £85 million Ordsall Chord will eventually link Manchester Piccadilly with Salford Central, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Victoria when complete.

Engineers are working on the huge undertaking now, and work is expected to be finished by December 2017.

This section of work will see engineers aligning existing track near Manchester Victoria and strengthening arches.

The closures will be lifted by Monday 4 April.
