Man trapped in machinery in Salford suffers serious injury

A man in his 40s had to be rushed to hospital after becoming trapped in machinery at a Salford company.

Six ambulances, two fire crews and a specialist Hazardous Area Response Team were called to Blue Planet Online Ltd on the Langley Business Park, Langley Road, Salford, at 12.45pm on Sunday 27 March.

The North West Air Ambulance was also scrambled to the scene but later stood down.

The injured man is understood to have been repairing machinery when his hand became stuck in the mechanism.

He suffered deep wounds to his hand and finger and lost a significant amount of blood.

He was released by firefighters from Salford and Agecroft, then treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by road ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said the man’s injuries were “serious but not immediately life-threatening”.

Businesses have by law 10 days to report industrial accidents, unless there is a fatality, in which case they must be reported immediately.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed they had been made aware of the incident.

“We cannot make any prejudgement until all our enquiries are concluded.”
