A homelessness charity seeing record numbers of people using its food bank is calling for tinned food donations for their shops in Little Hulton and Eccles.
Mustard Tree provide support for the homeless and marginalised and opened their Little Hulton branch in December 2014.
They say they are seeing spikes in the number of people needing support on a daily basis.
It’s estimated over 3,800 families in Salford have used food banks in the past year alone.
SalfordOnline.com spoke to Project Coordinator Anne Nelson who told us more.
She said: “We have seen an increase to people using our facilities at Mustard Tree, this is due to sharp increases in benefit sanctions.
“But people use us for all kinds of reasons, in the aftermath of losing a job, or illness, or some other unplanned change in their circumstances.”

“We are in urgent need of tinned meats including ham, hot dogs, corned beef and spam, also tinned fish including, sardines, mackrel, tuna, salmon etc.”
Mustard Tree are continuing with their Food Club trial – a new model where registered members pay £2 a week for up to ten items from the food bank which has a value of between £10-£15.
“We have had a lovely response so far to our appeal for food and this just shows that people are genuinely concerned for those who are worse off than themselves, for whatever reason.”
If you can help in any way then please take your much needed donations of food to either of the Mustard Tree branches which are at Unit 50, Hulton District Centre, Little Hulton and the Eccles branch at Southway, Eccles Precinct.
