Beechfield United Under 16’s met local rivals Moorside Rangers Green at Beech Farm Playing Fields and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.
United stretched their unbeaten Division 3 run in the Timperley and District League to five games. Rangers had the advantage of a 1-0 lead at half time but Beechy found an equaliser via Man of the Match Bradley Wheeler who produced the highlight of the game courtesy of a spectacular finish from thirty five yards. Late in the game the Rangers keeper made several fine saves to deny United what would have been a deserved victory.
In the Tameside Football League the Under 15’s Predators were gifted an easy passage into the final of the Sunday Challenge Cup after their semi-final opponents Youth Kicks withdrew from the competition.
Beechy remain on course for a possible trophy winning treble because they are through to the semi-finals of the Sunday League Cup and with games in hand have a great chance of claiming the JFC Sports Division title.
At Stott Lane the Under 13’s Tornadoes played Broughton Community and in a tense opening period to the match both teams squandered chances galore. It took twenty minutes for the deadlock to be broken and it was Broughton Community who edged 1-0 up.
Producing a positive response Beechy equalised within five minutes when a great through ball by Jacob Wilson set-up Charlie Ryan who supplied a first-class finish. But the Tornadoes joy was short lived following two avoidable mistakes and Broughton Community were obviously delighted to be leading 3-1 at the break.
Beechy made a bright start to the second half and were rewarded for their hard work after Joe Horrocks and Leighton White combined and Charlie Ryan provided another great finish. United’s third and second equalising goal arrived thanks to a superb pass from Ellis Taylor and Jeanny Le Blanc’s powerful finish for 3-3.
The Tornadoes appeared to have control of the match but Broughton Community quickly regained the lead then taking advantage of more unforced errors by Beechy took a 6-3 lead. United’s confidence was shattered when they conceded two more goals and the players left the pitch reflecting on an 8-3 defeat. Man of the Match was goal keeper Derryn Harrison following an heroic performance.
At a rain soaked Beech Farm the Under 12’s Storm (9v9) were in action against Deans Sports and moved nine points clear at the top of the Division 1 table following a 2-0 victory.
Full credit to both teams who battled against the elements and produced a very competitive contest played in the right manner and spirit.
The first half was a scrappy affair and though Beechy had a strong wind behind them they over hit far too many long balls into their opponents half. The weather conditions restricted the number of clear cut chances but the best of them fell to Beechy who eventually took the lead when the ball was played across the area to Harry Gartley who executed a cool finish. As the second half developed the teams had to deal with the heavy rain and poor visibility and Deans Sports came close on a couple of occasions to scoring an equaliser.
Beechy defended superbly and continually using the counter-attack were rewarded with goal number two. The ball was cleared downfield and Man of the Match Jack Thompson found himself one on one with a Deans Sports defender who at the second attempt while hoping to win the ball fouled the Beechy forward in the area. The referee had an easy decision to make when he awarded the Storm a penalty and taking the spot-kick himself Jack Thompson hammered the ball past the keeper to secure the three points.
Playing twice within forty eight hours were the Under 12’s Tornadoes (9v9) who hit double figures in their Supplementary Cup away game with Manchester Maccabi Lions. Producing a brilliant all-round display Beechy cruised to a 10-1 victory thanks to goals from Man of the Match Max O’Brien (4) Joe Staley (4) Ellis Kenny and Shaun Heywood. T
hen the Tornadoes met Parkwyddn Phoenix and despite dominating for most of the game United had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Both keepers pulled off numerous great saves and Beechy went 1-0 down with just one minutes left to play but there was a dramatic ending to this Division 3 match when with just two seconds left Joe Staley netted United’s equaliser. Josh Allen was Man of the Match.
Away to Boothstown Warriors for the second time in seven days were the Under 11’s Storm (9v9) who ended up on the wrong end of a thirteen goal score line. Goalscorers for United in this Development Group Blue fixture were Mason Turner, Luke Carr, Adam Rothwell and Finley Share. The Best Player Award went to Damion Broughton.
Involved in a friendly match with neighbours Moorside Rangers Green were the Under 11’s Thunder (9v9) Both teams created lots of chances and both keepers were kept busy in this highly entertaining game. Moorside Rangers took the lead but Beechy bounced back and were ahead via two superb goals by Toanga Mututa and Dominic Lawton. Rangers grabbed an equaliser to force a draw.
De La Salle Reds were the Under 11s Tornadoes (9v9) opponents in the Supplementary Tournament Green competition. Despite having home advantage the Tornadoes failed to produce an expected top-class performance and lost the tie. Man of the Match Alan Kay netted both Beechy goals.
United’s Under 10’s Storm found themselves three goals down at half time to Moorside Rangers Blue despite a decent all-round display. Beechy’s overall performance improved in the second half and a goal by Ben Delaney reduced the arrears. Sam Walton was voted Star Player.
It was always going to be a tough task for the Under 9’s Typhoon in their away game with Stretford Victoria who scored the opening goal. In reply Beechy got back level through Ronan Mullen who finished a clinical move involving Sonny O’Brien and Daniel Hesketh.
Unfortunately keeper Peter Ellis was forced to retire due to an injury but the other Typhoon players battled hard and Beechy added a second goal via Ronan Mullen. Sonny O’Brien who netted United’s third goal was named Man of the Match.
Producing a ten goal thriller were the Under 9’s Storm and Parkwyddn Predators. This Development Group Purple encounter was a great advert for mini-soccer with Caden Gibson, Oliver Percival and Reece James outstanding for Beechy. Keeper James Wharton made four brilliant saves and on target with goals for the Storm were Freddie Jackson, Oliver Percival, Reece James, Caden Gibson and Josh McLoughlin.
The Supplementary Tournament Red contest between the Under 8’s Tornadoes and Stretford Victoria was always highly competitive. The Beechy lads produced some brilliant soccer and scored some very good goals courtesy of Man of the Match Joshua Taylor and Joel Thorndyke.
In an exciting end to end Supplementary Tournament Yellow match at Beech Farm the Under 8’s Storm went a goal down direct from a corner. Man of the Match Saul Tagoe equalised then gave Storm the lead a minute before half time. Following an evenly balanced second half Beechy were worthy winners.
There was a high scoring display from the Under 7’s Storm in their Development Group Yellow fixture at Barr Hill Aces. Oliver Dalton-Bunker was the teams Man of the Match and the goals came via Kylan Twigg, Henry Jones, Ewan Tierney, Scott Craven and Ellis Adamson.
Following a closely fought Supplementary Cup tie with Swinton Junior Pumas the Under 7’s Tornadoes came out on top thanks to goals from Man of the Match Anthony Hughes and Fletcher Jackson. Goalkeeper Reece Cartwright deserves a mention for an excellent performance that included saving a penalty.
Beechy Under 7’s Hurricanes were away to Urmston Town Eagles and this Development Group Red game was a ten goal thriller. Ace goalscorer Ethan Harris scored all four Beechy goals and Lexi Hiles was voted the team’s Best Player.
