Man hospitalised after being knocked down on Chorley Road in Swinton

A man in his 60s was taken to Salford Royal hospital with leg injuries last night after being hit by a car in rush-hour traffic.

Police closed parts of Chorley Road in Swinton, from the Last Orders pub to Moorside Road, in both directions at around 4.35pm on Tuesday 19 April.

The pedestrian was struck by a Vauxhall Corsa on Chorley Road.

The road was closed for nearly an hour, causing delays for drivers in and around the Swinton and Wardley areas.

Officers were diverting traffic down Moorside Road while a rapid response ambulance arrived to treat the injured man.

The man, who is understood to be 61, was conscious and breathing at the scene but was initially thought to have severe leg injuries.

After being checked by paramedics the injuries were described as not as serious as it was first thought.

He was taken to Salford Royal hospital at 5.25pm, after which the road was re-opened.

Police did not make any arrests at the scene.
