St Ann’s hospice celebrates Queen’s 90th birthday

Patients from a local hospice were today celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday in style, with a special tea party in her honour.

Day care and in-patients at St Ann’s Hospice were treated to a specially made afternoon tea for the big day, as they gathered together to celebrate at the hospice’s Heald Green and Little Hulton sites.

The hospice, which cares for thousands of local patients and their carers every year from its three sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton and the Neil Cliffe Centre in Wythenshawe Hospital, is known for creating special moments and making wishes come true for its patients – from visits by famous faces such as players from Manchester City football club and dancing sessions with Birmingham Royal Ballet, to specially themed parties like the one today.

Rachel McMillan, acting chief executive at St Ann’s, said: “Patients and their families often comment that they’re really overwhelmed that we try to go the extra mile to make their time in the hospice as comfortable and happy as possible.

“The group of patients today seemed to really enjoy the party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday, and were really pleased to raise their cup in her honour.

“The Royal family has played a special part in the history of St Ann’s with The Queen Mother, Princess Anne and Princess Diana all visiting our sites in the past. I’d like to wish the Queen a very happy birthday on behalf of patients, staff and volunteers at the hospice.”
